Bruce McLaren's Album #2

Death Valley National Park,

April 2006

~Bruce and Gerry McLaren, Pete and Hannelore Maas, Chris and Lila Rayl, Buff and Diane Chase, Jay and Eileen Culley, Bill and Jody Lemke, and Chuck Minor all converged on Furnace Creek Campground in Death Valley National Park for a glorious vacation of sightseeing, hiking, and a little bit of biking. This was a first-time experience for the Culleys and Lemkes, but all the other seasoned pros made sure the newbies got a real sense of the place.

Enjoy these shots by Bruce of some of the frivolity from this year's Death Valley Days.

Nothing beats fresh strawberry shortcake in the desert! Chuck's birthday bash, prepared and provided by the McLarens, is reason enough to come to Death Valley.

Jody and Bill stroll through the grounds at Scottie's Castle.

The McLarens and everyone else enjoyed life at 200 feet below sea level in Badwater...

...as well as at 5,475 feet above sea level at Dante's View!

Hannelore and Pete take a hike in the canyons. Most of the time it was too windy to bike.

Diane, Gerry, Buff, and Chris enjoy canyon hiking, too. Bill forges ahead.

Resting after forging.

Furnace Creek Cafe's ice cream sundaes revive Hannelore and the other weary bikers and hikers!

Nature sure has a way with putting things into perspective. The Natural Bridge makes Lilliputians out of the hikers.

Eileen, Pete, and Hannelore brace themselves against the wind at Ubehebe Crater.

Gerry and Diane join Hannelore in the Ubehebe wind.

This old Twenty Mule Team wagon used to haul borax, or "white gold", out of Death Valley.
